Description

Like Philodendron and Monstera, Homalomena belongs to the arum family, although it is still much less common here. As it matures, the leaves of this Homalomena variety show a variegation of different shades of cream and green, which resembles the spotted pattern of camouflage clothing and has given the plant its name. In order for it to thrive optimally, its special care requirements should be respected.
The product photos show examples of the plant. You will receive a specimen that corresponds to the product photos in terms of size, shape and coloring.
- Growth type: upright
- Origin: South Asia and southwest Pacific
- Other names: Homalomena camouflage

Ben's tips on plant care:

- Habitat/light requirements: shaded to semi-shaded
- Substrate: aroid mix or green plant substrate with good drainage
- Temperature: optimal at 18-29° C (day), 15-18° C (night)
- Watering: keep substrate permanently moist, but avoid waterlogging at all costs, otherwise the roots may rot. The optimal amount of water also depends on the humidity and amount of light at the location, so it is best to start with smaller amounts and adjust as needed. Water less in winter.
- Humidity: high humidity is needed, use humidifiers or spray regularly, but then let the leaves dry well.
- Nutrient addition: Fertilize moderately every 2 weeks with diluted organic liquid fertilizer during the growing season. Do not fertilize in winter.
- Repot about every two years when soil is strongly rooted.
- Leaves may turn yellow-brown if given too much water and may break off if given too little. Cut off wilting lower leaves with 4cm distance from the stem.
